Crop report 2014 January - April (Saaz area)

In comparison to the last year the first three months were significantly warmer than the long-term average. Rainfalls were very low, it only rained 37,8 mm which is about 24,2 mm less than the long-term average.

In April, it continued to the hot and dry almost until the end of the month. Greater rainfalls came to the 26th and the 28th April (19,6 and 23,4 mm). In April, the temperatures and rainfalls were above average.

2. Vegetation stage

Dry and warm weather allowed an earlier beginning of spring works. Wiring and cutting hops went smoothly and efficiently. Vegetation (eg oilseed rape began to bloom already in the middle of April) is generally 2-3 weeks ahead, but this does not apply to hops due to the cut of the hops.

The training of the hops varieties Sladek and Premiant are already underway. We expect the training of the main variety Saaz around the 5th May.
