This month was characterised by above average rainfalls and temperatures which were slightly below the long-term average.
The weather was favourable for the growth of hops. In the majority of the cultivated area the hop has grown to the top of the construction; a smaller part of hop gardens, mainly at higher altitudes, is just below the top of the construction. The hop flowers are slightly weaker than last year, but still very nice. Thanks to the abundance of rainfalls, just as last year, a good harvest is expected. The beginning of the harvest is scheduled for the period from 15th until 20th August 2011. According to the state of vegetation, the estimated yield of the main hop variety (Zatec Semi-early Red) is expected in the average level of 1,1 to 1,2 tons.
The health condition of the hops is generally good. Although the weather caused an increased demand for protection against fungal diseases, producers were prepared. The treatment against aphides and red spider mites was also successful.
