Crop report - June 2008 (Saaz area)

Weather started June 1st by hailstorm which destroyed 10 ha stally and touched another approx. 100 ha of hopgardens. In third decade got weather warmer, temperatures was over 30 C.25.6.2008 was whole area of the Czech Republic hit by another hailstorm and even Saaz area was touched although the disaster does not look so bad. 4 ha of hopgaredens in Steknik felt down and another approx. 130 ha of hops was destroyed by hails in eastsouth part of Saaz area , concretely in locations: Lhota pod Džbánem, Velká Třeboc, Vraný, Mutějovice, Kounov, Domoušice, Zbrašín, Líšťany, Brloh, Hříškov. The month of June we evaluate more wet than normal /only 4 dry days/ and average as far as temperatures concerns.

2. Vegetation development

The hop growth is good and is positively encouraged by water reserves from May and beginning of June. Most of hopgardens / with exclusion these areas touched by hails/ reached top of constructions by the end of June. Negative influence on lenit growth have had high temperature in last decade of June. The hops slowed down its lenit growth and Loir microareas started with blossom in last days of June.

3. Pests and diseases

Even at the beginning of June was apperance of aphids reported. That is why was Chess 50 WG in dosage applicated 0,8 kg/ha. At the end of the month was recommended to use spraying against aphids on the basis of imidacloprid (Confidor 70 WG, Kohinor 70WG, Warrant 700 WG). On these hopgardens where appearence of red spider was reported is possible to use Nissorun 10 WP or Ortus 5 SP.Apperance of downy mildew responded to chmate and in present time is treatment with Ridomil Gold plus 42,5 WP, Aliette Bordeaux and Ortiva recommended. The general health stage of the hops we evaluace as good.
